One reason behind this tight-knit community is Sugar Bush Knolls' history. The village used to be a nursery and tree farm owned by the Davey Tree Company back in the 1920s. When Martin Davey died in 1948, arrangements were made to turn the sugar maple tree farm into a village.
For a village this small, residents of Sugar Bush Knolls have a plethora of outdoor activities located a short distance from their homes. For one, boating and swimming is allowed in the two man-made lakes inside the village— several docks are scattered along the shoreline.
